HIGH ROPES COURSE

Mandy faced her biggest challenge that summer. She had signed up to take part in a High Ropes Course Adventure. She was excited and just knew that she could thoroughly accomplish every task set before her up there in the air.

She and others met on the ground under the High Ropes Course. Tall ladders were in place. Various activities on ropes, swings and platforms awaited the participants.

Instructed in how to put on safety harnesses and helmets, they were ready to begin. One by one, each participant began climbing the tallest ladder they had ever seen. Then each chose the task or tasks they wanted. Some who thought they could breeze right through each task found themselves frozen at the top of the ladder, clutching a pole (Mandy included). Others who didn’t think they could do even one activity found themselves swinging from the ropes, enjoying the sense of accomplishment.

What did Mandy learn that day as she stood, gripping the post 20 feet above the ground? She learned that, when faced with a new challenge, none of us knows how he or she will react. Only by the grace of God can we come out victoriously. Thus, it is important not to think of ourselves more highly than we ought. Only by God’s grace can we accomplish any task.

For by the grace given to me I bid every one of you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think but to think with sober judgment each according to the measure of faith which God has assigned him. Romans 12:3

Heavenly Father, I thank You for lessons you send my way to show me Your grace in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen
