How many of us are “house poor”? We have moved our way up into larger houses with more rooms than we know what to do with. Huge closets are packed with items we forgot we had. We are hardly ever home because the husband and wife must work long, hard hours just to pay for an expansive lifestyle. They rarely see each other or the children. No one has the time to kick back and enjoy their home as a haven. The houses are beautiful but empty.
Our homes should be a place where we can go to unwind, to be ourselves and to enjoy one another, not a source of overwork and stress.
Perhaps it is time to re-evaluate. Do we have life from God which we are enjoying or are we just trying to maintain a lifestyle?
Surely many houses shall be desolate, large and beautiful houses without inhabitant. Isaiah 5:9
Heavenly Father, help us to establish and maintain the home You have in mind for our family. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
