THE PILLOWCASE

Our friend’s mother died, leaving a house full of craft supplies. Before their household auction was to take place, my friend grabbed an old, stained pillowcase and stuffed some old sheets into it. She thought we could use them to weave some rugs.

One day after a visit, our friend handed us the pillowcase. It was so old and that we were afraid it would spill its contents in our car so we threw it in the trunk.

Eventually we knew it was time to do something with what was in the pillowcase . . . . To our astonishment, as we peered inside, we noticed something pure and snowy-white all crumpled up. I reached my hand in and gingerly pulled out one . . . then two beautiful, lace-edged old fashioned nightgowns. A lovely square collar with delicate tucks at each wrist were reminiscent of the 1800s.

When we saw our friend again, we gently handed her the treasures - this time neatly folded in a clean box.

We, too, are like that old, stained pillowcase. Inside of us is the greatest treasure of all - God’s Spirit.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us. II Corinthians 4:7

Heavenly Father, please open my eyes to see how You treasure me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
