PRAYER OR CRITICISM

Oh, how often we look at someone else’s life and begin to criticize. We begin an internal dialogue with ourselves about how weak . . . bumbling . . . disorganized, inept, or rough . . . the other person is. Suddenly we catch ourselves . . . knowing that prayer is needed, not criticism.

A quick prayer is said. There - we’ve fulfilled our religious obligation. Soon we revert to our original critical ways.

Don’t we realize that the Lord desires to set that person free in the weak areas? God’s desire is to set us free, too - to pray with a pure, loving heart. And, indeed, that truly sets us both free. And that’s Good News!

Whereas the aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and sincere faith. I Timothy 1:5

Heavenly Father, please help me turn my back on criticism toward others and replace it with love from a heart made pure by You. In Jesus’ name. Amen
