WHERE LIES YOUR STRENGTH?

In today’s society, many try to emphasize healthy living. That can be good! As we become healthier, we feel we are more able to serve the Lord.

We need, however, to maintain a balance, being careful not to over-emphasize certain aspects of our quest for health. For example, we can all certainly go overboard in our search for the perfect diet and trying to stick to it. We can also become quite obsessive about our exercise regimes. If we don’t walk our mile that day or do those 100 push ups, we feel like a failure in God’s eyes, a real weakling. What will we do if we cannot keep up our health regimes? Will God no longer love us because we aren’t ‘strong’?

God, as usual, has a different view of things. Yes, He stresses in Scripture that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and we are to care for it. He also says what truly does please Him:

His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor His pleasure in the legs of a man; but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, in those who hope in His steadfast love. Psalm 147:10-11

Heavenly Father, I thank You that Your acceptance of me doesn’t rely on any ‘strength’ of my own. I thank You that, even at my weakest moment, Your love shines down on me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
