LOST IN BUSYNESS

A co-worker expressed her desire to go home from work early. She was bone weary . . . tired . . . exhausted. She had risen early that morning to go to her day time job, went home to prepare a quick dinner for her family and then headed off for a few hours at her night time job. All of that after helping her child with his homework.

After expressing her desire to go home, she began to feel guilty.

Why do we feel guilty when we are already doing superhuman work at a superhuman pace? Don’t we see that we can become lost in a world of busyness? Don’t we realize that we only have so much energy and that we must use it prayerfully and carefully? Don’t we realize that we don’t have to “do it all” but we are only expected to do those tasks which the Lord gives?

God is kind, expecting from us only what he gives us the strength to do.

I know, O Lord, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps. Jeremiah 10:23

Heavenly Father, please direct my steps. I cannot. In Jesus’ name. Amen
