Have you ever had spans of time in your life when everything seemed sad and difficult? Perhaps it was the death of a parent or a friend. Perhaps it was the loss of a job or a chronically ill child . . . a car which wouldn’t stay repaired . . . a roof that leaked. The difficulties or sorrow seemed to go on and on without a let-up.
We all know that difficult days and years do happen. Yet what a joyless life it will be if we are always looking at the troubles, peering around the next corner, expecting more difficulties. How much better it would be to declare with the psalmist:
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all of the days of my life and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever." Psalm 23:6
That’s the truth!
Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder in Your Word that it is goodness and mercy which follow me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
